I'm so excited to bring my debate experience--as a high school debater, and as a middle and high school judge and coach--to Notre Dame.
We have practice once a week for two hours, and work on speaking, research, writing, and argumentation skills. Through the Lincoln-Douglas format of high school debate, students use logic, philosophy, and research to write cases arguing both sides of an issue, which they then defend through formal refutation in their debate rounds.
In the spring, the students will participate in a practice tournament and/or a demonstration round. Next year, I'm aiming to bring the students to one or two local tournaments.
